Jasmine:Seafood Restaurant of San Diego
May 17th, 2008 by Dan
I can safely say my experiences here at Jasmine has been great most of the time. Having hookups with one of my cousin relatives who works there is a plus
The service is good throughout the day. I highly recommend anyone who chooses to eat here comes early on a weekend or face a looong wait. Expect an average wait time of 30-40 minutes. Have fun haha. The food served is the usual dim sum food you would find in a Chinese restaurant. Some selections include: Shrimp Dumpling, Chiu-chao style dumplings,Phoenix talons,Taro dumpling, Crispy fried squid ,cheong fun, Congee,Turnip cake,Egg tart and a bunch of others i cannot even name.
This Jasmine i speak of is in San Diego, near Cairmont mesa blvd. Overall , as long as your with someone who knows Chinese, you should be fine. I rate this place a 8.5/10!
Service: 7/10
Food: 9.5/10
Price: 9/10
4.5 just for my man james that was keeping food on our table.
My family and I really enjoy dim sum, what we don’t enjoy, however, is having to fight with servers who can’t seem to understand, or just plain do not serve us. I feared we might have a similar exp. here at Jasmine’s- this was not the case.
My sister had come to SD before, and last weekend, wanted to take the fam out to dim sum at Jasmine’s. Having not found a dim sum place in SD, we were excited to try it out.
The outside of the building is very misleading- it looks pretty plain on the outside, but inside it is surprisingly clean and classy looking (as far as dim sum places are concerned). We got there at about 11am, which was a good thing because we were able to meet the Sunday rush. We were seated immediately and began to do our thang.
As the rest of our party joined us, we started ordering. It seems like at the beginning of the meal, there weren’t that many carts, or people were monopolizing them. We started out with some shu mai (pork and shrimp) and some shrimp noodles. After we ran through that, we had our eyes on some bigger game, but they were no where to be found. Enter James. I’m not sure what his title was, but we flagged James down, and told him what we were looking for. James personally went to each of those carts and brought back food to us- bbq pork, duck, brocolli, etc…, our man was on point!
In addition to what James brought us, we got a couple of other things- crab claw balls, taro cakes, thai iced tea, sweet tofu, deep fried crab and seaweed, and mango pudding. I don’t consider myself a dim sum expert by any means, but everything we had was delicious, and we were all VERY full at the end of the meal. Towards the end, carts finally made their way out to us, but by then we were already good.
The good- Our man James kept the table full of food, and the good times rolling. We tipped just him right before we left for the excellent customer service
The bad- waiting for food before James came. We were seated pretty far back, and those carts were not making their way out to the outer tables.
The ugly- as we were leaving the wait to get seated looked pretty ridonkulous. Make sure you get in early, or make reservations if you can, otherwise you got a lengthy wait ahead of you.
Overall- if we want dim sum, we know where to go. If your service is a bit lacking, keep your eye open for James. “You’re my boy blue!”
